Thousands of people commute daily from Davis and Weber counties to Salt Lake County.  The only route is Interstate 15.  The only alternates travel through small residential towns not capable of sustaining traffic from a major 6 lane freeway.  While development of the Legacy Parkway Project has gained significant momentum since the mid-1990s, the concept and planning for the roadway has been around since the early 1960s just after completion of I-15.  It is currently stopped by lawsuits.  Read more about the timeline and lawsuits in the History link.

This site began on Mar 3, 2004.  On March 2, 2004, a series of accidents occurred in the early morning hours.  Even those who get up and travel to Salt Lake City from Davis and Weber counties before 6:30 AM were affected.

I luckily knew ahead of time about the accident.  I used a few side roads and managed to be on the south side of Interstate 15 at the point that all traffic was redirected from the freeway, Exit 327.  I was very upset with what I found.  I (along with hundreds of others streaming down this road) went through an intersection with no stop sign.  The stop sign in the other direction was keeping SEVEN MILES worth of THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC behind it! (The traffic from the exit.)  No highway patrol here to direct traffic.  But there were several cars ensuring the traffic was forced off the Interstate.  I know the UHP can do better than this.
